Embroidery - French Knot

French Knot

To begin this stich bring the thread up from the back of the fabric in the place where you want a knot to be. If you want it to be the center of a flower it should come up in the center of this area. Holding the needle in your dominant hand, wrap the thread around the needle at least three times (the more you wrap, the bigger the know will be). Holding the thread somewhat taught (not tight) push the needle back through the fabric right next to the place where you brought the thread up. Do not put it back through the same hole, there should be a few fibers between the first and second hole. Slowly pull the thread thall the way through. What remains on top is the French Knot.

I use these with the daisy stitch for centers and around other designs for interest.
